Serving as a key platform for Guangdong-Macao co-operation, Hengqin implements favourable policies such as tier-specific management and tax reductions, fostering greater integration between Macao and Hengqin.

Policy documents like the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area provide guidance and support for Macao’s development, including promoting appropriate economic diversification and enhancing infrastructure development.

Macao’s “1+4” appropriate economic diversification development strategy focuses on refining and deploying plans for the transformation of the integrated tourism and leisure industry, the traditional Chinese medicine and big health industry, the modern financial services industry, the high technology industry and traditional industries, and for the development of the exhibitions and conventions, commerce and trade and culture and sports industries.

Macao is the only place in the world where both Chinese and Portuguese are official languages. It has a pool of bilingual talent, offering linguistic and legal support for commercial co-operation with Portuguese-speaking countries.

Macao has established several co-operation platforms and funds with Portuguese-speaking countries, such as the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) and the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Co-operation and Development Fund, fostering trade and investment between these regions.

The Macao government has launched various policies to encourage youth entrepreneurship and employment, while providing a job information platform for the Greater Bay Area, offering more employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for Macao residents.

Macao leverages its connections with overseas Chinese communities in Southeast Asia to tap into ASEAN markets, enhancing trade and development opportunities with ASEAN countries.
